FAQ

How will the company I work for benefit from this certification?

Your company can benefit in two ways:

1) By learning how to comply with state, federal and local wildlife laws, you and your company can avoid potential complaint calls, agency involvement and fines. Please see this linked article for more info.

2) Your company can benefit by showing its clients it cares about wildlife. This is accomplished through green marketing materials available from Wildlife Training Institute; high-res logos for business cards and websites, Wildlife Protector award certificates, website listings, hard hat and truck decals and client brochures with your company contact information that explain your Wildlife Protector Certification training.

How will I benefit from this certification as a professional arborist?

CEUs: In addition to the benefits listed above, the Certified Wildlife Protector training has been approved by the ISA. Graduates will earn 2 CEU’s for our online course.

How does the online course work?

After registration and payment at wildlifetraining.org/enrollment, you will be emailed a link to download the PDF file of the training program to your computer. After completing the program, follow the link in the course work to take an online exam.

How does the online exam work?

After completing the training program you will be directed to take an online exam.  A link to the exam will be provided within the coursework itself. The exam consists of 20 questions and a participant survey. A score of 80% or higher is required to pass. Please allow 5-10 business days for us to process your exam. If you do not pass the first time, you may re-take the exam.

How long does it take to complete the training?

Allow an average of 2 hours to complete the program and exercises, another hour for the exam. You can take as much time as you like to complete the program, in as many sittings as you like. However, the exam needs to be completed in one sitting, since partial results are not saved.

Is the information specific to regions of the country or general practice and procedure across the board?

This is a nationwide certification program applicable to all regions of the U.S.

What does it take to maintain certification and/or re-certify?

We do not have a CEU requirement to maintain your Wildlife Protector Certification, but we do require re-certification each year so you can benefit from updated training information.  We offer a reduced price for our returning students renewing their credential.  Please contact us for the coupon code.

Who developed the course work and what are their qualifications?

David Lee developed this coursework with collaboration from ISA certified arborists and other industry professionals.  David is a wildlife biologist with a M.Sc. in Biology from Montana State University and a background in environmental inspection and training. Over the past 10 years, he has conducted wildlife surveys and provided environmental training to hundreds of utility construction and repair workers on power line, pipeline and fiber optic projects across the U.S.

Through this experience, he noticed the need to increase awareness of wildlife protection, particularly in the tree care profession. With the help of arborists, he founded Wildlife Training Institute (WTI) in 2009 and introduced the Wildlife ProtectorSM Certification program. Please click here to review David’s resume.
